Constitutional Law Fellow
Abby Smith joined Becket in 2021 as a Constitutional Law Fellow. She is admitted to the New York and California bars.
Before joining Becket, Abby was an associate in Newport Beach, California at the trial boutique Hueston Hennigan LLP, where she worked on a wide range of complex commercial and patent litigation matters. Her experience includes taking several depositions, overseeing damages strategy in a patent lawsuit, and drafting successful jurisdictional briefing on behalf of the Houston Astros. Abby also clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit for the Honorable Judge Michael B. Brennan.
Abby graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 2018, where she won the 2018 Hinton Moot Court Competition after briefing and argument on religious liberty, statutory interpretation, and the death penalty. Before law school, Abby received her B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature and her B.S. in Economics, both summa cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh. Abby also spent a year at the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
Abby lives with her husband in northern Virginia. Their favorite activities include volunteering with their church and dreaming of states without income tax.
