The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty (“Becket”) is a non-partisan, non-profit law firm that defends the religious freedom of all faiths in the courts of law, public opinion, and academic. In the past decade, Becket has won 12 U.S. Supreme Court cases, and defended a wide variety of religious groups, including Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Native American, and Sikh.

Becket has a high-powered, fast-paced, and people-first mission. Its operations are sustained through charitable donations and foundation grants—making the Development team critical to the organization’s ability to fulfill its 30-year-old mission and vital to the defense of human rights in America.

The development team is looking for a driven, high-energy, hardworking team player who is passionate about religious liberty and seeking to gain professional experience in development and non-profit operations. This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC.

Here are the qualifications we are looking for:

  • Commitment to Becket’s mission of religious liberty for all
  • Strong ethic of service and sustained positive attitude
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, but also take initiative as needed
  • Superior oral and written communication skills with impeccable attention to detail
  • Computer competency required in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), strong preference of Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in non-profit development or private sector sales/marketing
  • CRM experience preferred
  • Design and formatting abilities a plus

If you meet the above qualifications, you will report to the Director of Development and assist the Development Department with:

  • Effectively communicating Becket’s work via email and over the phone
  • Tracking and drafting proposals and reports
  • Formatting, proofreading, printing and mailing
  • Planning events, internal meetings, and collaborating on the annual Gala
  • Record keeping, research and prospect development
  • Maintaining internal lists and records
  • Donation processing
  • Other relevant development duties as needed
